Keith Gladden, 35, pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of Dontrell Toliver in the McElderry Park neighborhood back in 2020 on Wednesday, March 16, the office said, according to a release from the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office.
Gladden was given a life sentence suspending all but 50 years.
During his interview with officers, Gladden identified himself in surveillance pictures that placed him at the scene of the crime. The footage showed Gladden shooting Toliver while he was on the ground after being pistol whipped and shot by an accomplice. That accomplice is still awaiting trial, the office reports.
“The defendant's actions were unacceptable and he will deservedly be held accountable for his disregard for another life,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Toliver's family and friends, who are left to live through this unspeakable tragedy as they mourn the sudden loss of their loved one.”
Baltimore Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of North Montford Avenue and 2400 block of Jefferson Street on April 6, 2020, around 2:39 a.m., the office reports.
Upon arrival, officers found Toliver suffering from gunshot wounds to his arm, legs and torso at the corner of Montford and Jefferson Streets. He died later that day. Gladden was subsequently arrested on April 7, 2020.
The second suspect was identified as Arthur Holt, also charged with first-degree murder.
